Roca Barcelona Gallery promotes activities in the architecture and design sectors with the purpose of generating and disseminating knowledge among all those interested in this field to support the evolution and development of these subjects and their future contribution to society.
On March 1st, the place was the stage of the second session of the cycle ‘Spaces for architects. Conversations about reality ‘, under the premise of ‘Future Challenges‘. The meeting was attended by four great architects:
Carmen Moreno, Zaida Muxí, Carme Pinós, Clara Solà-Morales
The first session of the cycle, ‘Evolution’, analyzed the current situation of women in the architecture sector. In this second session ‘Future Challenges’, the speakers presented the future challenges needed to reach a situation of higher quality, equality of opportunity and fair recognition of the contributions of the architects of yesterday, today and tomorrow.
The participants gave their opinion, -based on their own experience-, about the challenges encountered when it came to triumph in the architecture and design sector. The act led to a fluent conversation, and each of the participants contributed their vision.

Carmen Moreno insisted that ‘there is still a long way to go, there are moments when you think that everything is won and then you realize that it is not‘, she said that visibility is the challenge that women have in the future ‘women have to believe in their leadership‘, Moreno read a long list of women who have invented important concepts, still relevant today: ‘the wi-fi was created by a woman! ‘.

Her vision was supported by Zaida Muxí: ‘the mirage of equality is very sold, but unfortunately we still have to choose between profession or family. In other countries, like Norway, they have only beaten inequality with laws, which I think we should start to raise.‘
Zaida Muxí
Carme Pinós was positive in the advances that are being made within the equality in the profession, but she did not cease to be realistic, stating that it is not something that we are going to solve in one or two generations, ‘we must ask for respect and being free to be who we are without prejudice. What we have to think is that we also have these prejudices and we also have to work on that. By believing in yourself, you get things.’
Carme Pinós
Clara Solà-Morales claimed that ‘society pushes women not to do things‘, we must make a social change so that women have the same support that men have in the profession ‘we have to create a framework of normality‘, she commented that positive discrimination is indispensable.
Clara Solà-Morales
‘Spaces for architects. Conversations about reality ‘is curated by the architects Martha Thorne, dean of IE School of Architecture and Design and executive director of the Pritzker Architecture Award, who already collaborated in the first edition, and Diane Gray, executive director of LA(H)B Laboratorio Arquitectura Hospitalaria Barcelona. The cycle aims to delve into the reality of women working in the field of architecture and design, creating debates and sharing information, opportunities and experiences to enhance the talent and diversity of women architects.
The next session will take place on April, 12th (Activism).
