nanimarquina presented in a few days, during the celebration of imm cologne show, the new rug collection designed by Martí Guixé. Ghost is a hand knotted rug made from 100% New Zealand wool.
The story goes that the magic of Kerman rugs goes back to about the year 1500: in the 16th and 17th centuries, the inhabitants of this part of central Iran, lying between mountains and the Lut Desert, were masters at weaving rugs of extraordinary sizes and designs. This old tradition regained popularity in the 19th century, turning Kerman into one of Persia's main rug producing areas once again.
Martí Guixé, a visionary with a conceptual and unconventional take on design, has breathed new life into the classic Kerman rug, recreating the mythical pictorial motifs of birds, flowers, horses and deer that appear and disappear... like ghosts.
Ghost is a rug that plays with shadows in black and white, a mysterious and brilliant blend of past and present that remains faithful to the strange simplicity and seriousness of the artist's work. The noise and saturation of the design put a modern spin on the traditional rug, drawing us into the exuberance of the scene, so timeless and yet so fresh.
“I worked on a small part each day, sometimes painting during the day and sometimes at night... the graphic arrhythmias reflect my different moods over a period of three months of work and give Ghost a touch of mysticism.” Martí Guixé.
nanimarquina will present the world premiere of new Ghost rug at imm cologne trade fair in Germany, from 13 rd - 19th January 2014, in a space located at Hall 3.2, Booth D042.
