The master cabinet maker and young designer of the year 2018, Antrei Hartikainen, has designed a new Bastone furniture collection for the Poiat Studio. The collection consist of a cabinet and a sideboard. The Bastone collection moves naturally in the frontier of art and design, and showcases Mr Hartikainen's interest in studying light and shadow as well his appreciation of craftsmanship.
The exterior of both the cabinet and the sideboard are partly open, partly covered by round and narrow strips of wood. “When people meet first time, the outer layers of personality are revealed first and the core eventually by time.” Mr Hartikainen tells. “In these furniture, this layered uncovering is being depicted by the partly open structure that enables the filtering of light and reflections of shades.”
“When we first time saw the prototypes made by Antrei, we were instantly attracted to it. The idea to use strips of wood on a cabinet is genius. The details are so excellent and carefully considered that the outcome is stunningly beautiful.” says Mr Timo Mikkonen, a co-founder of the Poiat Studio, with a smile.
Poiat and Mr. Hartikainen have collaborated before with the award-winning Fiori sculptures and tables.
An open space does best justice to the Bastone and equipped with adjustable shelves, Bastone suits for many different purposes. Both the cabinet and the sideboard will be available with doors in the future.
The dimensions of the cabinet are W 120 cm x H 160 cm x D 50 cm (W 47.2 in x H 63 in x D 19.7 in) and for the sideboard W 200 cm x H 80 cm x D 50 cm (W 78.7 in x H 31.5 in x D 19.7 in). The material is solid oak.
