Capdell wins two Red Dot awards with designs by Claesson Koivisto Rune and Kazuko Okamoto

The Spanish company Capdell has been bestowed with two Red Dot awards for the “Product Design 2016” category, with its Tri-Star table and Stir armchair, designed by the Swede Claesson Koivisto Rune and by Japanese designer Kazuko Okamoto, respectively.

The awards, which were handed over during the ceremony that took place at the Design Museum in Essen, Germany, on 4th July, confirm and reward all the hard work involving research, experimentation and the pursuit of quality of the the Valencia-based company, which, thanks also to partnerships with international designers, is gaining increasing popularity in the world of design.

Below are the two products which received the award:

Stir, inspired by the traditional Japanese doll Okiagari Koboshi, is a collection of armchairs in beech plywood with a curved chair back and soft fabric upholstery, featuring a base that has been designed to rock the chair gently and cradle whoever is sitting in it. The rocking base is made up of a wooden semi-circle that is reflected in a perfectly symmetrical manner in the semicircle of the enveloping arms.

The Tri-Star table features an unusual central stem with three triangular aluminium extrusions that form a 3-point, star-shaped base. Available with round, square or rectangular table tops.

First launched in 1955, the RED DOT award, which is organised by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, is one of the most significant and prestigious design competitions in the world, testifying to the extraordinary design quality of the recipient.
