The award-winning studio Sandra Tarruella Interioristas carried out the interior design project of a new coworking space for the company Cloudworks in the heart of Barcelona. The studio explains us the development,
For this new coworking project, Sandra Tarruella Interioristas’ team had to think about new ways of working and transmitting the values of our client. It had to be designed with a fresh workspace environment, maximum versatility, and at the same time, a comfortable space for future tenants.
The project is located in the heart of Barcelona, and it is divided into two levels in the same building. On the first floor, there is a large patio, and on the top floor, there are two terraces on both sides of the building. Both indoor and outdoor spaces have been incorporated into the project, so that the users the premises can have available a variety of optionsto work. It is important to note that on both levels, although they differ from each other, the same atmosphere is breathed and they are understood as an extension of the same space.
An important point of the project was the layout of the premises, since in order to achieve maximum versatility, we were asked to create different types of workstations. We were able to achieve this on both levels, by creating a large central space surrounded by smaller spaces for offices, meeting rooms and various services. This central space has its differentiating characteristic with the placement of a tile rug made of hydraulic flooring, which gives it a fresh and updated touch and distinguishes it from the rest of the spaces on the level. In addition, different ways of sitting and meeting have been implemented, from the traditional office table and chair, to benches or armchairs to work in a more relaxed way, as well as the possibility of using the outdoor areas as an extension of the office.
This project required that natural lighting reached all the spaces of the floor. For this reason, it was decided to make the divisions between the different rooms and of the central space, with transparent glass, but using frames with dividing panels to give a touch of distinction to the space and differentiate it from its competition.
Regarding the ceiling, and to give it the freshness that was sought in this space, we decided to leave the vaults and MEP installations visible, but all painted the same color so that they do not stand out. The general lighting was based on industrial-type fluorescent elements that are repeated throughout the entire ceiling. In addition, linear lamps were occasionally lowered above the tables to achieve good working lighting and break homogeneity.
A common spacewas included on both levels of the project. It was placed near the office, so that users can use it during their breaks to either have coffee or lunch. In addition, this office includes a bar area, so that the space can be transformed to have afterwork events, thus giving another alternative to the use of this coworking space.
