Hi-Macs® for Canal House, a home with character in The Netherlands designed by Witteveen Architects

A beautiful historic canal house in The Netherlands has recently been completely renovated by HI-MACS® Quality Club Member Houtwerk BV, based on a design by Witteveen Architects where a creative collaboration has arisen between new modern elements and the original characteristic interior. A large part of the customized work has been executed in the Solid Surface material HI-MACS®. Apart from its performance excellence in use, durability and ease of thermo-forming, HI-MACS® offers architects and designers an unparalleled scope of choice when it comes to unique colour, effects and textures. These range from combination of colours in the form of flecks or patterns, to translucent options which offer stunning effects for back-lighting. For the canal house project the architects have opted for the more minimalist and clean lines offered by the Alpine White finish. The master bedroom was built as an extension to the existing loft, which has been renovated to match the esthetics and materials used in the bedroom. Thus, HI-MACS® was the choice for the lining of the loft area in the bedroom, the complete balustrade and the doors with their embedded handles. The soft, smooth feel of the solid surface material compliments beautifully with the clean lines of the bedroom, and the striking craftsmanship and the high finishing level do absolute justice to the historical grandeur of this building. The matching bathroom at the back of the bedroom is literally “made” of HI-MACS®, with the floor and walls consisting of the material, as well as the shower & bespoke vanity unit with its customised sinks. Finally, the spectacular walk-in bath, where the walls blend seamlessly into the bath, is the crowning glory. Again HI-MACS® was chosen as the perfect material due to its thermoforming properties, and totally non-porous characteristic. To enable this spectacular and luxurious bath, the floor is reinforced in order to carry the heavy weight of the customized bath.
