In this edition, 350 projects were submitted by participants and schools from all across the world
The EASD (Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño) was the location of the 2018 Andreu World International Design Contest awards ceremony, an edition in which the contest's coming of age, with 18 years of experience, was celebrated.
The jury - comprised of Luis Ferández Galiano, architect, Giulio Ridolfo, textiles and color advisor, Ej Lee, Design Director at Gensler, Ana Domínguez Siemens, journalist, and Alberto Anaut, Founder of La Fábrica - after a careful deliberation, evaluating the best proposals for their design, presentation and innovation, have selected two winners and three honorable mentions.
The first prize went to the Lazar chair, designed by Juan Pablo Acuña, from Córdoba (Argentina). The jury valued its balance, harmony and the uniqueness of its forms. The design is inspired by classic elements, elegantly interpreting the construction of a highly versatile collection. In addition, the comfort, ergonomics and flexibility of the plywood seat and back was considered.
The second prize went to Juan Bueno for the multitasking table project where the designer, thinking of a cabinetmaker's work, created this two-level table and combines craftsmanship with technology.
Finally, the jury awarded three honorable mentions to the project the Graziella created by Darío Costa from London (United Kingdom), FLEX, by Chialing Chang from Tokyo (Japan) and the Onda table created by Roz de Waal from Gold Coast (Australia). In terms of numbers, this year's contest brought together winners from four continents and more than 350 projects created by over two thousand participants from 30 different countries, with a great artistic level from contestants and schools from around the world. Since its first appointment in 2001, the International Design Contest has grown to become an international benchmark, especially regarding the creation of seats and tables.
The numbers accumulated across all editions to present (2001-2018), with more than 28,000 contestants from 124 countries, offer an idea of the projection and importance that these awards have taken. The involvement of more than 200 schools and universities and more than a hundred jurors from all over the world - designers, architects, journalists, chefs, artists - who have taken part in the deliberation process. For the company is the best way to share and spread this platform for the transmission of talent and design culture that is at its roots.
The Andreu World International Design Contest is an annual event that brings together the creations of young students and designers who submit their proposals competing to make the most creative and innovative seating or table project, in a synthesis of design and technology, the result of which is unique pieces. The demand and effort of the contestants, together with the international diffusion of this event, turn the International Contest into a unique platform for the launch and promotion of new designers as well as the best platform for the transmission of talent and the design culture that it is in the roots of Andreu World.
