Its broad spectrum of internationally relevant exhibitors and high volume of visitors make the imm cologne a world-leading fair. But the favourable local conditions have also contributed to its success: good infrastructure for getting to and from the city, an extensive public transport system for local travel and, last but not least, moderate hotel prices that permit a longer stay.

As regular imm cologne visitors and exhibitors know, Cologne is always worth the trip. Even during the cold month of January, there are plenty of opportunities for stopping off at a quaint and cosy restaurant, dining at an upmarket modern eatery or taking a look at one of the numerous design events in the city after a tiring day at the fair. But there's something else that is undoubtedly far more important to visitors: the trade fair venue boasts very good infrastructure, the benefits of which are apparent even before they arrive. Because Cologne lies in the heart of Europe, the city is easy to reach by road, rail or air. Besides the international Cologne/Bonn airport, Frankfurt am Main is also a convenient destination for travellers from overseas: the journey to Cologne takes barely an hour with the intercity express train (ICE).

The exhibition centre itself is also very centrally located: it is situated directly opposite the main station - and thus also the cathedral - on the other side of the Rhine. As a result, the public transport system (VRS) is ideal for getting around in Cologne, especially as exhibitors’ and visitors’ tickets double as tickets for the VRS public transport zone. This is a big help - especially for international guests - because it saves them having to grapple with the ticket machines. As compared to other European cities, the taxi prices are also reasonable, especially since Koelnmesse Exhibition Centre is never far away thanks to its central location.

Another point in Cologne's favour are the moderate hotel prices during the trade fair: from simple accommodation all the way to exclusive design hotels, the city offers something to suit every budget. It is generally advisable to book a hotel several months prior to the trade fair. The Koelnmesse team is always delighted to provide assistance (see http://www.imm-cologne.de/en/imm/anreise_aufenthalt/uebernachtung/index.php).

Besides its international spectrum of exhibitors and its mission to present the latest furnishing and interior design trends for the coming year, the imm cologne also owes part of its success to the excellent infrastructure and the other points mentioned above. By the way: on average, approx. 60 % of exhibitors and more than one third of visitors come from abroad (at the imm cologne 2013, 42 % of those who attended on the trade visitor days came from outside Germany). It is therefore hardly surprising that, besides the furniture fair and interzum, Cologne is home to many other world-leading trade fairs as well.
