Shanghai based studio, Four-O-Nine has been awarded with 8.000 euros for its PLAY & DISPLAY project at the First Innovation and Design Contest of Hotel Spaces organized by Eurostars Hotel Lab.
The new Eurostar Hotel Room reinterprets the conventional interior arrangement of a standard hotel room. PLAY & DISPLAY reveal a compact island containing all furniture requirements in the centre of your room, freeing up the wall surfaces. This arrangement gives a different spatial perception of the standard guest room and encourages new interactions with the furnishings.
Furniture elements are deliberately pared down to the essential needs of temporary visitors. The resulting openness is personalized by each guest as their belongings are literally on display and become part of the interior framework.
Defined by comfortable upholstery and natural wooden surfaces, individual elements clustered in the centre of the room satisfy a variety of functional needs.
A metal framework equipped with textile drapery and adjustable pendant lights invites guests to adapt the space according to their desired atmosphere. Flexible seating and table elements are the tools to create personalized room scenarios.
This new room arrangement and framework allows a novel experience for a variety of guest types: from young travellers to romantic escapes to anything our hotel guests can imagine.
The interior furniture is composed of four elements, each represented in a different material. The steel framework defines the room structure and location of the bed, the centre piece of the island.
Wooden surfaces define workspace and storage functions, and the soft upholstered volumes create the room main furniture landscape. The attachment of textile drapery gives the room it's final touch and creates transparent layers within the steel framework.
