Sabine Marcelis, one of the most promising Dutch designers of the moment, has chosen HI-MACS® for her new collection of lamps ‘FILTER’.
“During my visit to the materials library of Baars & Bloemhoff I was quickly prompted to start working with their solid surface material HI-MACS®. This natural acrylic stone comprises a huge diversity of decors and colour collections that vary in visual density, composition and layering. In my work I often experiment with the manipulation of a light source and I continued this key theme for FILTER. I started by playing with the material, varying it in thickness and texture, for instance, and then started illuminating it”, says Sabine Marcelis. To this end, she combined HI-MACS® with moulded resin in various colours. Patterns and colours in the core of the material that are hidden when the light source is switched off then come alive and literally come to light in FILTER when the source is switched on.
Sabine Marcelis works with a strong focus on materials in the field of product design, installations and spatial design. Her clear aesthetic vision is much appreciated in the collaborations she conducts with industry specialists. Since setting up her studio, works by Marcelis have been exhibited in Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam and Musée des Arts décoratifs, Paris. She works with Victor Hunt Design-Art Dealer (BE), Etage Projects (DK), Side Gallery (SP) and Gallery Bensimon (FR).
The lamp collection can be seen at the exhibition ‘Transitions’ during the Dutch Design Week.
