It is not only that the range of hotels for a wide diversity of target groups is increasing in the big cities, it is also that new concepts in the hospitality industry in general are about competitive edge. Trend-setters or the ‘same old same-old’? Furnishings and equipment play a key role in guests’ perceptions.

For hoteliers, restaurateurs and travel organisers, it is a way of distinguishing oneself from the competition. More and more providers of consumer goods are therefore broadening their marketing activities and product palette with respect to commercial customers. And it is for this reason that Messe Frankfurt has devoted its next Management Report to the subject of “Contract business - a growth market. A study of contract business in HoReCa supplies and furnishings”. The study, which has been completed on behalf of Messe Frankfurt by the renowned Ifo Institute, is to be published in time for the consumer-goods fair, Ambiente. This will take place from 13 to 17 February 2015 in Frankfurt am Main.
The Management Report looks at the market volumes for commercial sales within Germany and considers the importance and the potential growth areas in the field of contract business. In addition, it goes on to explain how commercial demand in the food-service and hotel trades is organised and examines the role that trade fairs play in the suppliers’ marketing mix. The findings of the study are based on a multi-level approach. As well as a written questionnaire and an online poll amongst German exhibitors at Ambiente, in-depth interviews and discussions were conducted at selected companies. During these, both suppliers and consumers were able to express a view.
The Management Report is part of a series of informative studies on business-related topics, which Messe Frankfurt publishes within the framework of the consumer-goods fairs, Ambiente and Tendence. Other Management Reports in the series that may be of interest are: “Attractive extras - success through supplementary product ranges” and “Service, please! Digital and stationary services in the retail trade”.
