FrAncisco SilvÁn designed the Geberit space at Casa Decor

Renowned Spanish interior designer, FrAncisco SilvÁn, participated this year for the first time in Casa Decor, which this year was held in the C/Velázquez 21 building in Madrid, and which will reopen its doors shortly. The title of the project is “Geberit World” (world) is the word that inspires the project, in which Geberit wants to pay tribute to all continents. A phrase by Gaudí was relevant to the development of the project: “...Originality consists of a return to the origin...”

I took this phrase as a concept and I did an abstraction of it, creating the idea that is embodied in the project, in colors, shapes, inspirations and zoning. From a point of view of the Origin of the Continents.

From the entrance, viewers can see Geberit products, the furniture and the sink area are the protagonists from the first moment. Framed by a square arch, its entire perimeter is illuminated by LEDs and covered in shiny brass sheet metal, hammered by hand “in situ”. Photo by Nacho Uribe Salazar

Europe is reflected in the entrance, in the lavatory area with a set of brass arches, but giving a twist to the classic arches. In my project, rounded corners are combined with right angles.

The concept of the churches is also very present in the white and gold graphic, located on the right side of the entrance and representing the purity and greatness of a divine being. Inside, great graphics are developed inspired by the origin of the continents.

Antarctica is the coldest continent on earth. This continent is present in the bathtub area, a place where you can escape from this sensation, enjoying a hot bath with salts or a glass of wine.

Oceania is paradise, relaxing beaches, the color of its waters and its exuberant nature, make it the ideal continent for relaxation. The graphic is inspired by its islands.

Asia is a continent with great spiritual wealth and is considered one of the most important destinations to detoxify the body and mind through meditation. Thus, the chosen area is that of the toilet and bidet.

This image is the graphic chosen for this space, reminiscent of a mixed watercolor with Chinese ink. The darkness and clarity are shocking and form a relaxing image. America, is different for being the continent with the largest extension after Asia. This continent, shown in a graphic, that as a large cinema screen does not take away any element, is the great welcome to the space. The great beaches of the Caribbean, its great oceans are shown in this graphic that wants to capture the greatness and elegance of this great continent.Photo by Carlos Horcajada

Lastly, I want to highlight Africa, as it is exposed throughout the space, starting with a dark floor, as well as the green perimeter tiles with ethnic motifs that remind me of African drums and ending on the ceiling with geometric motifs in the shape of diamonds and crushed with gold leaf that starts from the inspiration of the leopard's skin. The furniture is also inspired by Africa, with imitation snake cloth or hoops reminiscent of “Padaung”, “Necks like Ostrich”.

The entire complex has a home automation system creating scenes to save energy from dawn with an intensity of light and a progressive change throughout the day until dusk. Photo by Nacho Uribe Salazar
