Cosentino presents two important projects during the Milan Design Week 2017: “Madera Meets Dekton” together with Riva 1920 and renowned designer Daniel Germani and “Dektonclay” designed by Apparatu. Discover them!
“Madera Meets Dekton®”, a timeless collaboration that brings together beauty and resilence at Milan Design Week 2017
Cosentino and Riva 1920, firm specialized in the production of solid wood furniture, present together the project “Madera Meets Dekton®”, created by the recognized designer Daniel Germani.
“Madera Meets Dekton®”, is a singular and spectacular timeless credenza. (2.5m long x 0.7m high x 0.46m wide). The body of Madera is a very elegant frame built with the ultra-compact surface Dekton® in its high polished black hue Spectra XGloss. Almost in a loving gesture, this frame is embraced by two organic pieces of solid American walnut carved to perfection by the master woodworkers at Riva1920.
“It is an honour to collaborate with Riva 1920 to bring to life Daniel's creativity. The combination of solid walnut and the stunning crystalline shine of Dekton® Spectra result in a unique and spectacular piece of furniture that is a gift to the world of international design”, remarks Santiago Alfonso, Marketing and Communication VP for Cosentino.
“Madera Meets Dekton®” reinterprets the essence of wood through its combination with Dekton®, a material that thanks to its nature and technology offers a unique look and functionality for design and architectural applications. For this project was chosen the colour Spectra, from the polished collection Dekton® XGloss. This collection comes with an extraordinary and illuminating shine, as well as the highest resistance and hardness levels.
The noble solid American walnut, crafted by Riva 1920, proceeds from sustainably managed American forests. The curves it presents have been obtained thanks to the use of technologically advanced machines. For the finishes of the wood, oils and waxes of natural base have been used. The result reflects research, innovation and experimentation which are part of Riva 1920 DNA. The joints of the credenza integrated drawers have been done with a handcrafted dovetail joint, which joins the two pieces thanks to pressure. According to Maurizio Riva, CEO of Riva 1920, “With Madera Meets Dekton® it is as if Riva 1920 embraced metaphorically Cosentino under the direction of Daniel Germani”.
Daniel Germani, designer: “I love wood's organic texture, shape shifting abilities and perfect imperfections. “Madera Meets Dekton®” happened during a visit to Riva 1920's compound... walking the shop with Maurizio and learning about all the processes and techniques was an incredible experience and one that sparked a fire in my head. In that moment, the softness and malleability of the wood and the hard, resilient almost stubborn nature of Dekton® made perfect sense together... almost like a hug or an embrace. The rest is history. At the end, I am so proud that Cosentino and Riva 1920 allowed me to design, play and push the limits of the materials...this is just the beginning because the possibilities are endless.”
“Madera Meets Dekton®” reflects handcraft combined with innovation and design linked to technology. It is also the result of an extensive research about raw materials, respect for the environment, innovative creative processes and work done with the utmost quality.
Dektonclay, the new project for Cosentino designed by Apparatu
Cosentino presents Dektonclay, a new project designed by Apparatu which explores the versatility of the ultracompact surface Dekton®. This project is result of the collaboration started three years ago between Cosentino and the ceramic atelier and Spanish design studio lead by Xavier Mańosa.
Dektonclay can be visited from the 4th to the 9th of April in #Room1 Via Cesare Correnti 14 in Milan, in the collective exhibition Ladies and Gentlemen, coproduced by 5VIE, a non-profit organization whose objective is to promote cultural and territorial development of the historic centre of Milan.
For this new Dekton® project, Xavier Mańosa explores the concept of the Kitchen, creating a collection of pieces that gathers cooking and eating through one material. Attracted by the idea of using the same material in every part of the kitchen, he presents a collection of table and kitchenware, furniture pieces and even a kitchen itself. The ovens, the kitchen top, the structure and the handles are created with Dekton®, modelling, pressing, extruding, and firing, pushing the malleability of the material in different artisanal processes, all together with the easy but decisive strength of the fire coming from the stove.
The aim of the ceramist was to discover new ways of working with Dekton®, to find out how the material behaved under different temperatures or conditions of density; to find out how versatile Dekton® could be; and the different uses to which it could be subjected.
After that time, new and varied questions arose about the creative process. How could the industrialised production of the material be combined with Mańosa's artisanal way of working? How could it be enhanced with a three-dimensional quality? How could Dekton be designed to achieve different contrasts, textures or ranges of colour?
Dektonclay combines Apparatu's crafted pieces with the industrially produced ultracompact surface in its black colour Spectra XGloss. Dekton® XGloss is the family of ultra-brilliant Dekton® surfaces, which thanks to an advanced nanotechnological treatment, developed by Cosentino R+D department, combined with a sophisticated mechanical polishing process give to the material unique technical performance in the market and a dazzling crystal shine.
Xavier Mańosa remarks: “I chose this Dekton® XGloss finish specifically because its spectacular glossy surface contrasts with the matte finish of the moulded pieces that serve as a support, thus creating a very powerful glossy/matte visual effect.”
