By combining Stockholm Design Week and Stockholm Funiture & Light Fair, Week 6 is now booked in the calendars of buyers, architects, designers and journalists from all over the world. With the trade fair at the middle of it all, the entire city will be buzzing with around 200 events, installations and parties. This year's Design Week will also include a unique light installation in Kungsträdgården.
The first-ever Design Week was held in 2002, and the week has evolved to include today more than 200 design-related events spread throughout the city. Many of the exhibitions are open to the general public.
“It is our ambition to make Stockholm the natural display window for Scandinavian design. We believe that it is very important for our visitors get as positive a total experience from the week as possible. Design Week functions as a meeting place for the industry even outside of Stockholmsmässan's halls. We are continuing to develop the week in cooperation with the City of Stockholm and the industry. For example, the design content of Design Week will be expanded to include fashion, food and architecture. I also hope that everyone interested in design will come to the fair on Saturday, the day it is open to the public, to see the most recent developments in design,” says Cecilia Nyberg, Event Manager for Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair and Stockholm Design Week.
The Light HouseHere are some of the exhibitions that are open to the public :
Stockholm Design Week presents this year its own design project with an installation in Kungsträdgården. Philips and the Swedish design group Ames Studio have developed a light experience that also doubles as an informational and inspirational platform. By combining light design and information media, they created an interactive space with a 360-degree perspective. This initiative by Stockholm Design Week is one of several design installations in the city.
In 2018, Ingmar Bergman would have turned 100. Final-year students from the Product Development Furniture Design program at Träcentrum and the School of Engineering at Jönköping University are celebrating this by interpreting Bergman's life works through seven unique objects. In collaboration with Filmregion Stockholm Mälardalen, the movies that inspired the students will be shown in the evenings. The exhibition is an extension of the school's stand in Greenhouse at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair.
Architects Kersti Sandin Bûlow and Lars Bülow will open the doors to their private collection of design furniture during Stockholm Design Week. The collection in Möbeldesignmuseum includes more than 700 objects created by leading Nordic and international designers.
Young Swedish Design's exhibition displays 20 contributions to product design, textiles, fashion, handicraft and furniture design. Free admission.
