Teresa Sapey creates a natural and outdoor atmosphere in the new Reebok Sports Club Madrid

Architect and interior designer, Teresa Sapey, delights us again with a space that leaves no one indifferent. With the challenge of designing a gym, she creates a new universe in the current way in which relationships are established in these meeting points

The starting point of that project was to create an outdoor atmosphere which gives the feeling to be outdoors, a real natural environment specifically designed for users of the Reebok Sports Club in Madrid.

Considering the space as if it was a living element, as much as people occupying it, Teresa Sapey gave life to a new natural, eco-friendly, humble and almost poetic dimension, which expresses itself thanks to the light birch wood, the timeless elegance. True Leitmotiv, the light wood articulates the rhythm of the content and both people and machines, like spaceships, seem to have landed on the new planet of Reebok Sports Club.

The trees are metaphorically represented on the gym ceiling thanks to circles with irregular diameters that evoke woods, which in turn, remind a natural roof that covers and protects, through impressive volumes, the bare space.

The goal was to create a dialogue between the space and the user, between content and container. Time and space converge to ensure the maximum exaltation of the physical well-being of customers.

Relaxation zones were conceived as submerged islands with the aim of humanizing physical effort and encouraging face-to-face communication among users. The islands give customers the opportunity to socialize at a time when human relationships are increasingly managed through contact with space rather than speech.

The path continues along what looks like a labyrinth of mirrors. Mirrors that do not only serve people to see but also to see each other, increasing in turn the perception of space.

The aesthetic simplicity, emphasized by the use of different colours, recreates the view of a natural landscape.

In that space, nothing is left to chance. Red panels were strategically placed to help overcome cardiovascular efforts, which, indeed, require greater physical concentration. The green panels, on the other hand, stimulate tranquillity and relaxation during stretching and moments of rest.

The oxygen of the entire project is the light. The lighting was carefully studied, not only to create a comfortable environment but also to produce spectacular optical effects. It gives life to a space that can vary and transform itself during the day and according to different seasons.

The close relationship between Teresa Sapey Studio and the client is at the base of Reebok Sports Club new image. It made possible an open dialogue based on a new concept of space, which is not only dedicated to physical training but also to become a place of dreams, aspirations and ambitions. A place that goes beyond the simple concept of the gym and in which the fluidity of the architectural forms fits perfectly with the movement of users’ bodies, with the aim of making machines and the space one and the same.
