The Matèria space (Rector Ubach 43, Barcelona), presents the exhibition “Molt Personal”. A journey through the professional / personal career designer Antoni Arola. From 13th March to 12th April 2014, the exhibition includes work for brands in the design and Home Dècor industry, as well as more personal artwork.
Antoni Arola was born in Tarragona in 1960 and currently lives in Barcelona. He studied at the Escuela Superior de Diseño Eina (Eina Higher School of Design and Art) in Barcelona, and in 1984 began his professional career at the Estudio Liévore y Pensi. He subsequently joined the company AD Associate Designers and in 1994 founded Estudi Arola.
He has undertaken artistic projects in a wide variety of fields, including lighting for Santa & Cole, Viabizzuno and Metalarte, pieces of furniture and perfume bottles, as well as interior design projects and exhibitions.
His professional career is divided between teaching, workshops, artistic experimentation and research into light. His continuous and unending search for beauty, inspired in ancestral cultures and his unique vision of light, lend him a singular versatility which filters through into every project.
His work has been shown in individual and collective exhibitions in Barcelona, Madrid, Milan, London, Mexico, New York and Tokyo, among other cities.
Arola has been awarded numerous prizes, including two Silver Delta Design Awards, in 1999, 2001 and 2012, the National Design Prize in 2003, and the 2009 I-plus Award (for best lighting).

“Few months ago, Beatrice Askanazy offered me to make an exhibition about my work in Materia, where other exhibitions of other designers had been take place. I said: “Yes, of course!”.
The proposal is divided into three parts: projects; the “making off” and other inspirations and research, such as photographs made elsewhere with different walls textures that talk about color.
In addition to this, a small sample of my collection of seeds, proposing with its natural beauty a new way, and a wooden totems (some parts casting molds of and old factory in the district of Poblenou, Barcelona) representing my artistic side, the other ways to draw!“. Antoni Arola
