The newly opened Parador is located in the old town of Lleida, specifically, is located in the former convent of the Dominicans of Roser. The architecture and decoration studio CIDON Interior Design & Contract has been in charge of the rehabilitation of this building from the XVII century to turn it into a magical hotel where to relive the past with the most contemporary design.

After seven years of work, the Parador has been opened this summer, becoming an architectural, cultural and, now, tourist attraction that will help revitalize the historic center of the city. Due to its location, it intends to become a good option to cover the growing demand for inland tourism.

This new Paradoris located in a historic building that was declared a Cultural Asset of Local Interest by the Generalitat de Catalunya, so as it is a building of great historical value “a respectful rehabilitation has been carried out in order to recover and maintain the original structure of the Roser Convent“says Paloma Romero, CIDON interior designer.

The building is divided into two clearly differentiated spaces: the church and the cloister. The church has been restored to become the hotel's restaurant and the cloister, located in the center, has been transformed into the hall, which is surrounded by 53 rooms of the Parador.

In terms of decoration, the CIDON team has been inspired by the lifestyle and art of the Spanish monasteries and convents of the 16th and 17th centuries, seeking the creation of an aesthetic concept ‘Monacal Renovated Style’. Finally, they fused the past with current design pieces, as is the case of the entrance counter: a monumental piece made of HI-MACS®, a material of last generation acrylic stone.

As the Paradoris located in the north, CIDON opted for neutral colors and elements that bring warmth to spaces such as horse blankets in brown and white tones, carpets in beige tones or natural elements such as large trees that give calm, freshness and elegance to each one of the rooms from the reception to the rooms, passing through the hall and the restaurant.

Antiquity, elegance and contemporary design from the entrance

After an imposing medieval gate, you can access the reception of this charming 4-star hotel. The walls in pristine white contrast with the wooden window in the background and the long counter made in HI-MACS®. It is a strong and resistant furniture of straight lines, with a completely smooth and non-porous surface, only altered by two stylish gold lamps. The choice of HI-MACS® for such a prominent place, is due to its high resistance, easy cleaning and durability, what is essential for a space that receive guests every day.

When installing this piece, they chose the Taos tonality of the Volcanics range, as the architects’ aim was to highlight the piece over the rest of the room's elements in neutral tones. In addition, a light has been placed under the huge desk that brings elegance to the room and allows to appreciate this color that evokes natural stone.

The result shows how last generation materials such as HI-MACS® can be integrated both in modern spaces as well as in renovations and restorations of antique buildings such as the Parador de Lleida, a project that combines past and present.
