A desert. A house. A range of special glasses and a team of qualified professionals. This is the “House of the desert.” One of the most exclusive, demanding, risky, creative and efficient Guardian® Glass projects, which has just emerged in Spain with a clear objective: to show directly in the field, and during a whole year with its four seasons, the importance of glass in our daily life. Even in the harshest environments that anyone can imagine!
Therefore, challenging nature and designed to operate in what is considered one of the most adverse and extreme places in Europe, the desert of Gorafe (Granada), “The House of the Desert” (La casa del desierto) stands on a wooden structure and is completely glazed with efficient glass Guardian Glass.
In only 20m2 are distributed bedroom, bathroom and living area. A sufficient space that looks directly at the landscape and that also has a water filtration system, another for energy production and a set of photovoltaic solar panels.
The design, the result of the joint work of a large and experienced team of architects - led by Spela Videcnik of OFIS Architects - together with glass specialists, engineers and energy consultants from AKT II and Transsolar, responds to the current and future challenges of architecture and construction sectors, thus promoting structures that are respectful of the environment and energy efficient. Something in which directly intervenes the type glass with which any space is framed. Selecting the most appropriate for each case, the interior of a house can be completely transformed.
The glass of the windows helps in saving energy, ensures a better thermal and acoustic insulation of the interiors, and can even increase the level of security against impacts or burglaries in a house. A comfortable home no matter where it is located, chosen according to the specific needs of each case.
And to facilitate the task and advise along the way, Guardian Glass, in addition to having the appropriate products, has the tools to discover them quickly and easily. With Guardian Glass high-performance, architects and interior designers from all over the world can design and improve your world.
Located in the northern part of the region of Guadix, in the province of Granada, Andalusia, the desert of Gorafe Coloraos owes its name to the red colors of its lands and the diversity of forms that have been generated in the area by the peculiarities of the erosion system and the lack of vegetation. Over the decades, the so-called “badlands” have been formed, which are characterized by their extreme aridity and the coarse profile they present. Canyons, gullies, ravines, canals and other geological forms of the style make up the general panorama of this desert, which is considered one of the most adverse in Europe.
