Tom Dixon and Ikea combine their creativity and inventiveness to design DELAKTIG, a functional, modular and transformative collection

Tom Dixon recently collaborated with IKEA in order to design a super-durable aluminium frame that could be constantly updated or upgraded as your life and needs evolve. DELAKTIG is originally only a simple bed, designed to be transformed as you think best, into a chaise lounge or a three seat sofa by adding additional components.

Tom Dixon has created heavy-weight task lamps, coffee tables and magazine racks that can be clamped, slotted or bolted on at will, to mutate the sofa into a work or entertainment space. Made of substantial and durable aluminium plate the hacks are robust enough to last a lifetime.

Boom Light is a functional standing floor lamp that can be clamped onto the DELAKTIG to transform the frame into a functional workspace for the limitless enjoyment of creative pursuits, tv dinners, and occasionally work. With an optional heavy-weight aluminium base stand, this functional, practical and beautifully engineered task light takes its inspiration from generations of draughtsman's and machinists lamps. Reduced to a series of cylinders, tubes and junctions it is arranged in a minimalist sculptural composition and made from raw aluminium.

The collection features an attachable side table created for the convenience of all DELAKTIG compositions. For use as a cocktail tray on a chaise lounge, a bed-side table on the humble single bed, or a convenient resting spot aside a sofa for your mobile apparatus. Cut from a heavy-weight sheet of raw aluminium, polished and anodised for maximum durability and functionality.

Other hacks include an attachable side or back panel and magazine rack designed as a simple scallop edged surround, functional as support and headboard alike. There is also a heavy-weight boucle throw that you can use to transform the entire unit into an electric blue mass.

Tom Dixon also collaborated with Bemz who specialize in soft hacks to produce three luxe covers that elevate the IKEA frame into a luxury unit from Shower-proof stripes to an Icelandic sheepskin mono-cover known as “The Beast“.
