To mark Eurocucina 2012 Ernestomeda, leader in the high end designer kitchen market, has the pleasure of presenting Icon, the new kitchen styled by Giuseppe Bavuso. Powerfully, evocatively named, the new Ernestomeda model emanates charisma and personality. “Ernestomeda was delighted to start working with Giuseppe Bavuso, since we greatly admire his talent, professionalism and technical approach”, states Alberto Scavolini, Ernestomeda CEO.

Icon is characterised throughout by impressive high-tech solutions, starting from the various opening/closing systems used on most of the kitchen's elements, such as the Flex wall cabinet, which combines initial vertical slide with a second phase in which the door rotates, giving access to the whole of the cabinet's interior.

The Evolution pull-out peninsula - one of the new programme's most distinctive features - can be extended to different lengths depending on requirements: it can be used retracted as a snack-top or extended as a dining-table, with length adjusted to suit the number of diners. The CAN-DO cupboard system, on the other hand, has a pantograph opening mechanism, and is able to take appliances - which may be either visible, in a specific section, or concealed - with the aid of the exclusive “Ernestomeda Safety Oven Switch Off” safety system. This is an electronic device fitted when appliances are built into cupboards, which monitors power draw-down when the cabinet door is closed. Once electricity consumption exceeds 100 W, if the cupboard door is not opened within 90 seconds of the warning buzzer sounding, the system automatically switches the appliance off for complete safety.

Another exciting innovation is the MOVE UP motorised storage cabinet: designed to ensure that all useful accessories are to hand when preparing food while still keeping the work-surface tidy, it is moved up and down by a concealed mechanism, activated by means of a touch control panel. The Reflex illuminated wall cladding, with LED backlighting, provides uniform, soft lighting, also reflected by the satin finish steel hoods: the Sail and Mistral island versions and the Ramp wall hood.

Another leitmotif of the Icon programme is its focus on providing a healthy kitchen environment. This important factor is reflected mainly in the design of the Air door: thanks to the installation of a ventilation filter in the concealed side and holes in the inner door panel, the air entering the interior will be cleaner. The door delivers better performance - especially close to heat sources or zones with variations in air pressure - because it increases the air exchange inside the cabinet, ensuring optimal conservation of foods. Moreover, the perimeter seal provides airtight door closure, keeping dust and dirt out.

Icon also has tactile appeal. The sophisticated use of materials combines fine elements such as heat treated wood with more technical, plain surfaces like glass, lacquered finishes and DuPont™ Corian, introduced in the doors, making them particularly tough and lightweight. Developed by Ernestomeda, the innovative food-approved, concrete-look ICONcrete is used seamlessly for the Sequel cooking/washing zone, enclosed by a reflective clear glass splashback, specially created to separate the kitchen from the living-room area.
