The interior design studio PF1 is runned by a team of collegiate interior designers who bring their experience and knowledge to offer customers a comprehensive service. The company's main objective is to satisfy the needs of its clients in terms of contract interior design, to make their business more profitable, through a careful prescription that provides effective and decisive solutions. This year, the studio has concretized a new project, very original: transform a 19th century lighthouse into tourist accommodation, respecting its essence and original elements, but turning it into a highly comfortable space that invites relaxation. The Pancha Island Lighthouse, located in Ribadeo (Lugo), in two tourist apartments, was the challenge assumed by the interior design studio.
The Belgian brand Orac Decor® has been responsible for redecorating the entire lighthouse, with the desire to transmit calm and warmth. The interior is comfortable and elegant, thanks in large part to the materials and qualities chosen. Indirect lighting using LED technology, which comes from the floor and ceiling, transmits an intimate and special atmosphere through the firm's multifunctional baseboards and cornices. “It has been a unique experience for us to work on this unique project with the PF1 interior design team“, says Víctor Valentín, director of Orac Decor España.
The project came from the franchise company Eirobra. “We are excited when we receive the order. We knew the lighthouse well, since it is one of the most emblematic of the Galician coast “. The Pancha Island Lighthouse is located in a privileged place, in the most external part of the Ribadeo estuary, and 2 km from the town of the same name, belonging to the province of Lugo.
As Loli Moroño explains, “the biggest challenge we faced was the responsibility of transforming the building into the first tourist accommodation in Spain located in a lighthouse“. Thus, the premise of this study was, as always when facing this type of projects with a high historical and patrimonial weight, to do so with respect. Caring for all those singular elements of the installation. “Even so, the most complicated thing was to get a building with such strict use and regulations to adapt to the hospitality sector, without subtracting a single comfort and adding value.”
Two exclusive apartments overlooking the sea
If the guest is looking for comfort and tranquility, at Isla Pancha Lighthouse he will find it elevated to the nth degree. “The client gave us absolute freedom when it came to projecting the interior design, with three unique conditions: quality, warmth and comfort.” Maximum comfort provided by the rooms that, at the same time, respect the connection of the building with its surroundings. Of square plant, the lighthouse lodges two apartments-suite with equipped kitchen, appliances of high range and domótica in the baths, where they emphasize the bathtubs with views to the sea. Taking advantage of its location in a privileged environment, the PF1 interior design studio wanted the exterior to penetrate the interiors through the windows, so as not to lose the feeling of truly living in a lighthouse at any time. To do this, the lantern -located in the center of the building- has been enabled so that guests can climb to contemplate the landscape from the top.
Total respect for the original elements
The lantern, the tower and the structure of the base building were irremovable when it came to projecting the conversion of the lighthouse into tourist accommodation. In addition, two original elements wew fundamental to preserve the original building, built in 1857: the hydraulic tile floor and the forge staircase, that amounts to the lantern. “Recovering these two materials and putting them into value was one of the indisputable requirements of the project, and a pleasure for us to know its origin“, says the creative director.
The forge staircase had been made by the Ancient Handmade Forges of Sargadelos at the beginning of the 20th century. Although now Sargadelos is known for traditional ceramics, this factory was a pioneer in the implementation of its blast furnaces of excellent quality, thanks to the magnificent kaolins - a very pure white clay, used mainly in the manufacture of porcelain - from the nearby town of Burela
“A project with which the PF1 team has learned a lot about the history and heritage of our land, Galicia; but also, and as always, we have learned even more about the execution of contract hotel projects at the highest level “.
