In its sixth year, the London Design Medal has become one of British design's most coveted accolades, awarded each year by the London Design Festival to an individual who has made an immense contribution to design and London. This year, the London Design Medal was awarded to Spanish sudio London based, El Ultimo Grito.
At a dinner - supported by Coutts and Veuve Clicquot - last Monday night in the splendid surrounds of The Foreign & Commonwealth Office the London Design Medal was awarded to El Ultimo Grito. An award in other editions has been awarded to personalities like Ron Arad, Paul Smith, Zaha Hadid or Vidal Sassoon, among others.
Accepting the award, the Spanish designers said, “This is a real surprise for us...Our work crosses many boundaries and London is the place where we can make it happen.”
In addition to this award, were delivered the Lifetime Achievement Award to Sir Terence Conran, and two new awards, the Design Entrepreneur, delivered to Jane Ní Dhulchaointigh, inventor of Sugru, and Emerging Talent Award for Daisy Ginsberg.
