The Spanish company Porcelanosa recently opened a 2,000 sq.m. store designed by the architect Norman Foster in the heart of Manhattan.
The Porcelanosa Group flagship store opened on the main thoroughfare, Fifth Avenue, in the heart of the commercial sector. The iconic, early 20th century building chosen as the location for the store in the Big Apple was converted into an international architecture and interior design point of reference by the prestigious architect Norman Foster.
Porcelanosa's new flagship store stands at the strategic junction of Fifth Avenue with Broadway, opposite the Flatiron Building. This flourishing district hosts the leading international interior design companies.
Products from the eight brands which together make up the company - from ceramic wall and floor tiling to natural materials, kitchen facilities, bathrooms and construction systems - will be displayed on the lower floors of the six storey building, whilst the upper floors will house offices, meeting rooms and a spacious area for conferences, seminars and exhibitions.
The architectural practice Foster and Partners carried out an extensive transformation of the building (listed among the protected buildings in New York city), restoring the original appearance of the façade and completely transforming the interior into a versatile, innovative, environmentally friendly area.
This is Porcelanosa‘s twenty-fifth store in the United States where, after three decades of business success, the company has over 500 authorised distributors.
To celebrate this milestone for the company, Porcelanosa organised a gala event in New York with over 700 guests from more than 80 countries, who gathered in the city of skyscrapers to celebrate the significant occasion.
Representatives from leading architecture and interior design companies in the United States joined Porcelanosa's closest international collaborators and friends.
Also attending the celebration were many well-known faces, such as Isabel Preysler, the face of the company for over thirty years, the designer Carolina Herrera, matador Cayetano Rivera and top models Nieves Álvarez and Irina Shayk, together with Hollywood stars who converged on Porcelanosa for the gala opening in the Big Apple.
