The Gau table is the work of four hands carried out by designers Silvia Ceñal and Ibon Arrizabalaga for Treku. A simple yet elegant circular coffee table. The table is avaliable in various dimensions and finishes which can be combined to create a personal and unique result.
Silvia was educated in Industrial Design in Spain, Holland and Italy and has spent years working freelance. Ibon took his first steps as a professional on the design team of SEAT and in 1998 he began at Treku where he is responsible for the product design team.
Ibon Arrizabalaga & Silvia Ceñal's Interview
How would you define Gau?
(Ibon) Gau is a round coffee table, simple but elegant, that comes in 3 sizes (and 3 heights) that combine with each other. The slender cylindrical legs contrast with the robust ring around the edge of the top and finishes the piece.
(Silvia) It is an ideal piece to put by itself or accompanied with others in a different way. It is good as coffee table or side table. You can choose tops from any wood and finish from the Treku sample book and the edge and legs can be any of the available colors.
What is the ideal space for Gau?
(Silvia) The Gau line of tables is universal: it adapts to large professional spaces, offices, hotels or small shops among others, as well as in the home. In a home, for example, it can works as a coffee table, side table for the sofa or a night stand in the bedroom.
How did you come up with the creation and design of a product like this?
(Ibon) The commercial network gives us ideas and information that helps us establish certain criteria or necessities. On the other hand, from a product standpoint, we work in a way that is open and intuitive to create a portfolio that is interesting for the brand. What it is about is finding the equilibrium between each part. It's a constant process in which the idea take form organically and further define themselves, even during the fabrication process.
Why did you decide to take on this particular project?
(Silvia) Many of Treku's products are modular systems with a wide range, such as Lauki, Aura, Kai or Bost. Accessories like the Gau tables have another type of importance: they let us create environments within the spaces that they’re installed. Right now, at Treku we are focused on creating a more dynamic portfolio of these complementary products that allow you to enrich the atmosphere of a home or other type of space.
What are you working on currently at Treku?
(Ibon) Right now, we are working on a few different things at once. Silvia is focused on developing a dining room table while I’m working on a chair and an armchair, things that until now I’ve not had the opportunity to design and makes it a particularly exciting challenge.
