“It is called Fontal -belonging to the source (in Spanish)- because Expormim has decided to bet on a return to its origins, to rattan and to the historic local know-how on how treat it”.
The company has been working with rattan for more than 40 years, and since its inception has been the most used material. Going back to these origins, but with an updated production technique, the designer Oscar Tusquets has conceived this collection Fontal and he says of this work: “This project is born from the desire to bring the rattan back as a fine material and claim the rich artisan tradition existing in our country. I have tried to give a new look to a centennial technique. This has been achieved by replacing the traditional corbelling and ligatures as connecting element by the twinning of adjacent canes. With this innovative solution we have achieved a strong, flexible and lightweight structure”.
The consumer tastes have evolved and designs have been renewed constantly, but the intrinsic qualities of the raw material: lightness, flexibility, sustainability, naturalness, among others, obtain a redefinition of the spaces through its use.
