Design will be one of the one of the pillars of the forthcoming edition of Feria Hábitat Valencia, due to take place from 1st. to 5th. of February next in Feria Valencia. This will be done through a new exhibition project called Area D, a space gathering together top firms and brands both in furniture and lighting, at national and international level, with an extensive programme of events and activities focusing on the design field.
That is a very interesting and important initiative towards providing an appropriate response to the design actors, from companies to creative studios, designers, professional specifiers, architects, interior designers and architects, students or specifiers.
Area D, in this regard, is an initiative having its own personality within the Feria Hábitat Valencia showcase, and will be fully identifiable within the exhibitions environment through its own graphic identity.
In fact, Area D has the involvement of the creative studio Odosdesign, based in Valencia, in the visual design of the exhibition project. Odosdesign is a dynamic group of designers that was formed right after their participation in the Nude Show of Feria Hábitat Valencia in 2005 with their ‘Ensombra’ Sunshade that was a tremendous success.
The Feria Valencia team is working with this Design Studio, that works at present with leading companies such as Actiu, Punt Mobles, Mobenia, Arlex or Gandia Blasco, in the development of this ‘Area D’ initiative, that has been really welcomed by many design related companies and groups of professionals.
“It is much more than just a differentiated space within Habitat for the companies dealing with the design of furniture and lighting”, explains Luis Calabuig, from Odosdesign Studio, “Area D” generates a differentiated context, where the values and criteria that the companies sharing this space have in common are going to be perceived, using key elements which allow us to unify the area, at the same time that the brand feels free to define its own esthetic code” stated the Ontinyent-born designer.
In this regard, Area D will also host proposals such as the Nude Show for young designers, the exhibition area for publishing companies, a conference Agora, different areas for theme exhibitions or specific ‘corners’ for journalists accredited, among other proposals.
“The concept of Area D is based on creating a meeting space through ways connecting the different exhibition spaces. In short, this is our city, the City of Design. The place where streets, boulevards, squares, leisure areas, commercial areas and, of course, a working core, meet” explains Calabuig, for whom “the aesthetic appearance of this space represents the skyline of a large city in a state of continuous motion, a city that learns and unveils itself to the public in a simple and easily accessible way”.
Hábitat makes a difference
The commitment of Feria Hábitat Valencia to design is illustrated by Area D and seeks to effectively respond to the specific needs of the design industry. As Andrés Gil-Nogués, director of the event puts it: “it strengthens the unique core values our show. Valencia is in a state of constant turmoil in the field of design. That is a reality. And Feria Hábitat Valencia is, no doubt, the home of all of the stakeholders involved in design, from national and international leading brands to design students or the best, most qualified professional specifiers”
For Gil-Nogués, “proposals such as Area D reflect the positioning of Habitat as a special show for those companies, firms and brands that search for more than just a standard commercial fair”. And in this framework, “The decision we eventually made to choose the joint holding of our fair with Cevisama y Fimma - Maderalia under the initiative ‘See you in Valencia’ clearly demonstrate that change, evolution and continuous improvement is a reality in the Habitat show.
