Spotlight shines on interzum’s textile production line

Four hundred companies in the Textiles & Machinery zone will make interzum 2013 the world’s largest event of its kind. Many CAD/CAM giants, textiles suppliers and machine manufacturers registered early on, including companies that are re-joining the interzum after a few years.

And the reason? An impressive event space, a textile production line in Hall 10.1 where visitors can watch as a leather car seat cover is manufactured live. interzum is cleverly demonstrating the synergies between the upholstered furniture industry and the automotive sector. “interzum is a trendsetter and innovation driver for the furniture industry,” says interzum project manager Matthias Pollmann proudly. “At our world leading trade fair visitors can see cutting-edge developments in materials and tools for furniture manufacturing and interior design. The Textile & Machinery segment is crucial, and its 400 exhibitors, covering three halls, make us the industry’s largest trade fair. This year, our textile production line event space will ensure that this segment attracts the automotive sector as well as the furniture industry.” The production line will cover an area of 1,500 m2 in Hall 10.1, and will show how a car seat cover for a premium mobile home is manufactured. It will showcase every step of the process, beginning with the design and cross-sectional imaging on a computer, then on to cutting using the latest generation of automated cutting systems, all the way through to final assembly and finishing. This is the first time that two philosophies for cutting leather will be directly contrasted – live – in a special exhibition space, giving visitors the chance to visualise the different advantages of the two approaches. Visitors interested in premium mobile homes will be excited to visit the Bürstner model at the end of the textile production line. This is a rare chance to observe the entire production chain from initial sketch to finished product. Expert guides will lead several guided tours every day, during which they will explain the production process. External project coordinator Ulrike Roosen is thrilled to see such commitment from industry partners. “Our concept won over many exhibitors right from the start,” she says. “I am especially pleased to see that key industry players are confidently exhibiting side by side here.” Some of these companies have not attended interzum for a few years – for example, automation specialist Gerber Technology, which last exhibited at interzum in 2007. Yvonne Heinen-Foudeh, Marketing Director EMEA, explains. “With its new textile production line showing the manufacture of a car seat cover, the 2013 interzum team has demonstrated their commitment to professional execution and created a truly exceptional concept this year. Various fair organisers and other industry players have thought about introducing this kind of project in the past, but interzum is making it a reality. Gerber Technology believes that this approach is very worthy of its support, especially considering the level of information it can offer to users – the industry itself. We were very happy to agree to have our relevant products and application experts play an integral part in this innovative concept.” Hergen Vollert, Sales Director at VEIT, the market leader in ironing technology, thinks the production line will be a huge success. “It will lighten the atmosphere and make the event more interesting,” he says. “Visitors will be able to observe the production process and start to understand how complex it really is.” The concept of the event space also impressed first-time interzum exhibitor Amann & Söhne, specialist in yarns for sewing and knitting, which promptly confirmed its attendance. Bürstner, the leading manufacturer of mobile homes, also gave some interesting reasons for participating: by attending this year, the company is pursuing its goal of demonstrating to an expert audience the often underestimated workmanship that goes into manufacturing a mobile home. Furniture of this type has to be even sturdier than regular home furnishings, because it is subject to movements and vibrations that never occur at home. Pioneering production methods are applied to create these elegant and functional mobile home upgrades. Bürstner will be showing its Aviano I 739 G model with luxurious leather interior. Groz-Beckert was impressed by the way the interaction between industry players and individual companies in the production chain was represented. This manufacturer of needles and precision parts for the textiles industry hopes to grow its existing, already outstanding network of contacts in European development centres and production facilities, particularly in the automotive sector. Another early registration came from Expert Systemtechnik. Says CEO Sebastian Bruder, “As a co-initiator of the textile production line, I warmly congratulate Koelnmesse on its decision to present the entire textile production process for one seating unit. This concept demonstrates the most up-to-date technology and also takes account of different manufacturing philosophies.
